Goals

Goals and objectives shouldn’t change we all should know that! Taking online courses is identical to taking classroom based courses. Of course the delivery method is different, but the material & objectives should be the same. Some students believe online courses are easier, but I see no difference in the two. Everyday I work online just like I would if I went to a classroom. You might use different tools but nothing would change.

I made it to level 5!

Shall we celebrate??

I’ve been complaining about this game for weeks, but I’m starting to enjoy it.  Keep playing! Maybe I can make it to level 8!

This article only explains the obvious I believe. Most tech people I know do not enjoy social environments and human interaction. The article mentions young people spend 9 hours a day using technology which is true. Everything is technical so 9 hours doesn’t surprise me. This article isn’t something I would take seriously though.

I’m still playing Outpost and I haven’t made much progress.

Cheating

If a student wants to cheat bad enough he or she will find a way. Taking classes online doesn’t making cheating easier, but more difficult. I’ve never taken an online that made cheating easy. Everything has been timed and random so you would have much more work than actually learning the material. If you engage yourself and participate in trying to learning cheating won’t even cross your mind. Of course, we can always tell when a student is cheating on their work. A student’s abilities are usually seen during the entire semester and shouldn’t spike up during the final project. I personally believe plagiarism can be done without you even realizing it. If you’re using references/citations, you could do it mistakenly

Frustrating

I’m playing Outpost trying to rent a room, but I’m getting the message “You can’t do that here” I’m at the reception. I’ve died 3 times playing this game and I’m only at level 3. If I didn’t have problems like this I might enjoy the game. I can’t find anywhere online that mentions this type of scenario. I only know the basics of this game and need to know more before I can be successful. I need the bonus points, but I don’t know if I can make it to level 8.

Any ideas?!?

Portfolios

Portfolios should be taken out of our school systems. These writings take so much time away from actually learning in class. Some teachers and students could care less about the quality of the writings. The grading isn’t fair and the scoring rubric is nonsense. My portfolio writings in school were mostly done by my English teacher. Teachers would take a week off from class so they could grade portfolios. We had an entire week of substitute teachers and learning wasn’t happening. My teacher wanted her students to score high and would edit anything that wasn’t correct for us. These writings are no indication about the level our students can write.

Education

I can defiantly understand why people would label education as a science. Science can be duplicated and always show the same results. Education can be expressed differently with various styles. I’ve stated multiple times and we all know that some techniques will not work with everyone. Every instructor teaches in a different way and you never know how receptive your methods will be. As instructors we should always be changing our ways of educating and trying different methods.

I’ve been trying to play this game for 2 hours and I haven’t got anywhere. I’m not sure what the goal is and when I find my quest I can’t go in that direction. Is anyone else feeling the same way?? I’ve been reading websites for assistance, but I’m not getting anywhere.

Theories

We have so many different learning and teaching theories that all seem to overlap.

Of course, learning would be more difficult if we didn’t have teachers using theories and helping us. Although, learning can take place on our own and be the most influential on us.  We have certain theories that work only we certain types of students. The teacher has to determine the best style of learning for the students and what theories should be used. We “just know” which theories will work and when they should be used.

Room for More!

Sometimes learning takes places after thinking you know it all. We can’t know all there is to know about everything. We continue to make connections and can have an epiphany long after we are introduced. Every experience that we have in life is an opportunity for us to learn something new.  ZPD doesn’t have a solid center.
