I’m really enjoying this class and I believe my knowledge in multimedia design will improve. In high school, I enjoyed my desktop publishing class and this class reminds me of those days. I have to admit I’m having trouble finding the time for podcasts but I enjoy them. Since the storm last week my whole routine has been screwed up so I’m trying to find a balance. I like our class and I’m wondering what will be next.
The thin walled classroom is one of the greatest technologies educators could use. If all classrooms could adopt this practice many students would have some much needed exposure to other cultures. Knowing that children can blog, chat and conference with students beyond the local community would be great. Education and public schools especially, should be so much more than your basic subjects it should be a learning experience that impacts you significantly.
Not every culture will adopted the latest technology at the same rate. We will always see variations in the world not matter what we are dealing with. Different age groups and incomes could be the main reasons for variations in technology adoption. Your grandparents are not likely to be using networking sites like your teenager. Of course, those in a more rural area are less likely to have access to the latest technology for various reasons. Technology isn’t for the privileged it should be accessible to everyone who has a desire to learn.
The debate over social network sites and social networking sites is really confusing and shall I say pointless. Our culture has created and had some desire for social networking sites especially with the younger generations. People use these things to search and live in some online environment they truly do not have. Social networking is defined by me as MySpace/Facebook or dating sites not blogs. There is no correct way to define Social Networking Sites and why should we?
Solomon’s four precepts suggest that technology is a right and every individual should have access no matter what their circumstances might be. Regardless, of your location or finances everyone should have the same opportunity for technology usage. When I think about technology I often forget about the technology that was introduced before computers such as electricity. “In many ways access is about the right to learn and to know, the right to an education.”
1) Access to up-to-date hardware, etc
I agree. Every county in the state should have the same updated technology no matter where you might be.
2) Access to meaningful, high quality
It’s important that each user has some input on the content they are using in the classroom. It would be wonderful for students in more rural counties to be exposed to more diversity.
3) Access to educators who know how to use the tools
In my county the teachers are given some of the best technology in the area but have no idea how to use it. Many of the veterans have no interest in changing their lessons plans to accommodate the new technology. Teachers should be trained and be able to use the technology to the fullest extent.
4) Support for change through technology
When technology is upgraded and enhanced we have to be willing to “upgrade” with it. The world will continue to change so we have to keep up because we owe it to the students.
I’ve never used a photo sharing website before so Flickr was my first encounter. I think it would be great for class projects or sharing photos with friends. This picture was taken before the snow storm dropped inches of snow on Louisville. It defiantly has a small hint of foreshadowing and it told me the big one was coming. It’s amazing only branch on the pine tree had snow on it. I didn’t really understand why the snow continued to stick on one branch and not the others. I’m sure that it has something to do with wind patterns or something. This was my favorite picture taken and funny enough this tree is being cut down because it fell on my house.
You might be wondering what happen to me this week fellow classmates. I am snowed in and without electricity! My electricity came back on this morning, but I don’t believe it will last since the weather man is calling for more snow tomorrow. I’ve been surviving with a small heater and my cell phone. I would say no school in Jefferson County tomorrow since 150,000 homes are without electricity. Hopefully, I can get caught up on my class work tonight and tomorrow!
P.S. I have a pine tree on the roof!
